Global Dance Exchange
Where Dance Transcends Borders
The Global Dance Exchange is an outreach initiative founded on the belief that dance is a universal language that connects, empowers, and heals.
Led by Kathy Costa McKeown, Artistic Director of DanceWorks Studios, this program brings high-quality dance education and community-based movement workshops to youth around the world and often in underserved or challenging environments.

Kathy’s philosophy extends beyond steps and technique. As a teacher with advanced training in dance anatomy and somatic movement, she approaches every workshop with a deep commitment to safe, mindful training that is paired with her unwavering belief that dance can foster resilience, confidence, and self-expression in even the most vulnerable populations.

Past Global Initiatives
​
Lebanon – Summer 2016
Taught six dance classes to children (ages 6–13) in two refugee camps through the United Lebanon Youth Program.

South Africa – Summer 2014
Led three major workshops in Cape Town: modern technique for professionals (Dance for All), jazz and modern for youth (Jikeleza), and healing movement for pediatric burn patients at the Red Cross Children’s Hospital.

Ghana – Summer 2008
Taught liturgical and modern dance at Redemption Hour Faith Ministry School, concluding with a student-led performance.
Global Collaboration in Action:
Reine’s Story
One of the most meaningful extensions of the Global Dance Exchange came through a collaboration with NAWAYA NGO, where DanceWorks Studios helped bring Reine, a young dancer from Lebanon, to the United States to further her dance education.
Through mentorship, training, and cultural immersion, Reine’s experience embodies the heart of this program — empowering dancers through opportunity, education, and belonging.
